Corporate Responsibility Building on strong foundations
Over the years, our operating companies have developed good practices in environmental management and have introduced award-winning health and safety programmes.
However, after rapid expansion through organic growth and acquisitions, there is an opportunity to share and strengthen best practices for the benefit of all Group companies. This year we have developed a strategy to deliver a coordinated approach to corporate responsibility across the Group.
The strategy was approved by the Board in July 2008 and will help us to build on our strengths, improve performance, share best practices and, where we are able to, implement industry-leading initiatives.
It introduces, for the first time, a framework to set consistent standards across the Group. This will allow individual operating companies, and the Group as a whole, to measure progress over time.
Our strategy is based on five focus areas:
- health and safety;
- environment;
- people development;
- responsible business;
- community engagement.
